hgupta's Full Review: Hewlett Packard LaserJet 1012 Printer
It has now been 7 months since throwing out our old inkjet printer (see review for Epson C82) and we have been very happy with this HP laser printer workhorse.
After years of turmoil in the inkjet world, we got fed up and made the switch to laser. My work experience with HP LaserJet's has always been good, so this was a logical choice when it came time to choose a laser printer for home use. The price was good ($199 Staples, but you can find it cheaper online).
Setup was quick and easy. No USB cable in the box, however. Drivers for this printer were already incorporated in MacOS 10.4 (Tiger) making setup easy. The printer has a small footprint. (Plastic cover over the paper tray lets you rest a few small things on it like a pen cup) Time to warm up and first page print is very quick, less than 5 seconds. Quality of the print is crisp, clean, and smudge-free. Printed sheets are a bit warm right as they come out. Printer is relatively quiet compared to the inkjet we threw out. We've made several hundred prints thus far with no significant hitches. Print speeds are as advertised. Rarely, the printer will pull in a blank sheet of paper slightly angled producing a misaligned print.
I think this printer is ideal for home offices, small businesses, and college students.
