| norwich's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Pavilion 735n (DC472A#ABA) PC Desk... |
I bought this PC in June 2003 and have used it for long periods daily for the last five months. I've burned DVD and CD with it, maxed out the hard drive, and have made it my workhorse. This machine performs and doesn't really care what I throw at it. You're spending about $750 for the machine (no monitor) and look what you are getting: Athlon processor running at 2.1 GHz, 512MB RAM, 80 GB hard drive, DVD writer/rewriter, CD writer/rewriter, another 48x CD drive, NVIDIA GeForce4 MX video card with 64MB video memory,56K modem and 10/100 NIC, six! USB ports, a Firewire port, and any flash memory module port of recent design. All are mounted on the front of the mini-tower. They even throw in a 1.44MB disk drive. And this machine is on Amazon.com for $749! The factory installed XP Home runs great, is compatible with the installed hardware; a solid blend of hardware and software.
Three things I'm not happy with:
The machine is overclocked and the motherboard runs warmer than I'd like. Never locks up but think I'll invest in more cooling for the mini-tower.
No LEDs on the two CD/DVD drives. I like an LED on the drives telling me they are reading or writing.
Finally, the 512MB installed RAM uses both memory slots so upgrades to the DDR RAM mean you'll have to pull a 256MB module. Bummer.
Of course, the speakers suck but that's true of most any machine in the under $1000 price range.
Get one and you won't be upgrading your PC for awhile.
