Pros: 64-bit processor, widescreen, nice look, most necessary ports, integrated card readers
Cons: too much of software preinstalled, very heavy ac power adapter as well as laptop itself
The Bottom Line: I recommend this notebook because of high quality/price ratio on my opinion. I like much 64-bit processor, very nice screen and overall design, very stable hardware so far

| mairchik's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Pavilion ZV5000Z (dp523av) PC Note... |
I have bought my notebook from HP online store last year and have been extremely satisfied so far with it. I paid $1225 and got $100 rebate check just a month after submission rebate forms when I got my laptop, though delivery itself of the laptop took almost two weeks what I found a bit long.
Now a few words about laptop itself.
First positive thing for me was really cool to get AMD 64 bit processor for money paid with following configuration: 512MB RAM, 40GB hard drive, 15.4" widescreen, almost all necessary ports including Firewire and integrated card reader for most card types though lack of Compact flash reader I found a bit annoying since my digital camera uses Compact flash and i thought CF is one of the most used card types. Hardware is very stable working and I dont have any problem with it so far. I should mention here that I upgraded RAM up to 1GB and it was very easy to make.
Now, about software installed. I found preinstalled software package coming with a laptop too "heavy", I mean there were plenty of things installed which are occupying plenty of hard drive space but are not very useful. For example, all HP printer and other drivers just taking the place without use, or HP Image Zone is not very useful but takes much space. So what I did, I uninstalled everything, reformatted hard drive and installed everything I need again. Positive point from HP is that all software disks were supplied in case if needed again later.
Now the most interesting thing for me. I have made a dual partition and installed Fedora 64 bit version so I have a dual boot laptop now with Windows XP 32-bit/Linux 64-bit.
I am very pleased with a performance of my laptop but should point here that I spent some time to make my computer run on full performance speed, since initially it was running only on 800 MHz instead of 1.8GHz. And it was not because of settings in power options. I think it was because of some problem with processor driver I downloaded from HP site.
I made it finally to run at full speed but still have some problem: namely I have to restart my computer twice to switch it in 1.8GHz regime.
Driver support is very good from HP site. They are being updated quite regularly.
In conclusion, I am very satisfied with my laptop.
