| mverive's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Pavilion zv5000 (559158) PC Notebo... |
After using various different laptops, and purchasing my HP zv5000 for $800 as a refurbished unit, it has been my main computer, outlasting (and outshining) the others. I have not had the power jack problems others have mentioned, and only had the laptop sent back to HP initially for a non-functioning touchpad. This was nearly 3 years ago, and the zv5000 has undergone memory upgrades and several HD upgrades (the original 6GB drive is now replaced by a 160GB drive, which is nearly half full!). Running Windows XP Home Edition, the laptop is still faster than many current laptops, the screen hasn't shown any dead pixels, and everything works as it should. The digital media slot makes it a snap to transfer data from my camera's SD cards, and also supports Memory Stick , Memory Stick pro, MMC, and SM cards. Multiple ports, including PCMCIA, 3 USB, Ethernet, built-in 802.11b/g, docking port, modem, SVGA, audio in/out, and mini-USB make this a very versatile computer. The wide screen is great for DVD's, and the built-in DVD/CDRW still works flawlessly.
Being a large computer, with the upgrades, the battery life is poor, but once you accept this fact, and don't expect great battery life, you won't be disappointed.
