My Uncle wanted my buy a Digital Camera and asked me for a suggestion. I wasn't too sure about his budget but recommended a Nikon to him anyway. I now found out that he went for an HP R707 and got the chance to play with it.
Though not a leader in this category, surprisingly it a 4 ~ 5 MegaPixels Camera. The R707 has a solid feel because of its part metal part sweat resistant design. I also noticed that certain buttons where not placed the conventional way as how other cameras do. Basically, the placement is extremely ergonomic. If you hold the camera firmly with both your hands, you will not find yourself groping about to shut off the flash as it is within thumb reach.
Apart from this, the menu is simple to work with and surprisingly comprehensive. There are preset scene modes like Landscape, Panorama, Beach and Snow (for light conditions).
It even has a help section which will explain each mode and give tips for each shot taken, that is, whether the photograph could have been taken in a better manner. If you're too close to the object, the camera will suggest the Macro mode by simply flashing the icon when you try tofocus.
The camera was able to poick up details and displayed a very good image contrast. Tiny details such as text on a pair of batteries, and the components on the graphics card were commendable. However, there was little disturbance (noise) in the photographs taken at ISO 100. The deviation is a little over average. Thankfully, the deviation does not increase too much when the ISO levels are increased to 200 or 400.
The deviations seen here are still lower than in its counterparts.
