EtyrnalDream's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Photosmart 435 Digital Camera
I got this camera for my birthday because I wanted a camera that would take better pictures than my old digital camera. It's a very nice camera but I've already come across a few annoying problems.
1. When you take pictures of something from a distance, it'll come out as clear as possible. When you move in close, it tends to be very blurry (surprisingly the background is clear). There's nothing that changes it so that it'll focus on the foreground rather than the background. It's very hard to take any close-up pictures even though you have the option to zoom-in.
2. Some colors make the picture come out awful! When taking pictures of flowers, the flowers tend to look like they're glowing or 'bleeding' outwards. I have taken pictures of flowers in full sun and shade and I experience the same problem.
3. Battery life. Yikes. I had to purchase a battery recharger that charges 4 batteries at any given time. Believe it or not, I have to switch two batteries on a daily basis. The camera swallows up the batteries far too quickly. The longest my batteries have ever lasted in a given period were two duracell batteries that lasted a day and a half. The booklet warned me to use rechargeable NIMH batteries. NIMH batteries last almost the entire day but I have had the camera complaining about "charging flash" 15 minutes into using the camera after I just recharged the NIMH batteries.
4. LiveView (The screen on the back of the camera) is tricky. While you may think the picture on the LiveView looks horrible, the actual pictures that load onto the computer will be a lot better so don't worry if the pictures on the LiveView are horrible. You also have to keep in mind that while the LiveView pictures are tiny and you're worried that you didn't catch something good, the picture is tons larger (If you didn't zoom-in) so it may have caught all the details you needed.
This is all I can think from the top of my head at the moment. I still have the camera and I still use it even though it gets frustrating when I'm trying to take certain pictures.
If you're looking for a camera just to take pictures, It might be good enough for you. However, if you're absolutely serious about the pictures you take, you might want to skip this camera.
