| thegreatfixer's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Photosmart 733 Digital Camera |
hello all i by lots of digicam for family and friends (over 20 Kodaks, 2 HP 733, 2 Canons)
i started years ago with my first digicam (Kodak DX3600 2mp) still my favorite and prefer it over many other digicams i have bought and use it on a daily basis
i went a step up for family and friends with the Kodak CX6330, 7330 3mp (same camera in my epinion) they are upgrades as far as images and features but it was a letdown i 2 areas i the video went down to 15 fps my older 3600 has 20 fps (frames per second) true seamless video is 25-30 fps
i was really disappointed to find out that the newer 6330 and 7330 do record video with sound they do not have a tiny speaker to hear the video during on camera viewing and my older 3600 did it added a lot of "GEE WIZZ factor and helped some decide to get a digicam SOOO
i then bought 2 of the HP 733 from walmart for about $170 with a 128mb SD memory chip at the time a great price well from day 1 when i got to play with it before passing it on to the new respective owners (a very close family member and a good friend) i bought them because compared to the Kodak it has an on camera speaker and records the video in the .avi format which is better then Kodaks .mov (an .avi will have a smaller file WITH THE SAME QUALITY as .mov which lets you record longer video and store more pictures) well as soon as i turned it on and looked at the screen to focus a picture there is terrible screen lag (maybe only 10fps which you cannot follow anything in the screen it just to slow!!! (every other digicam i have bought and checked out did not have this screen lag in fact most have a faster screen viewing frame rate then it can record which is OK)
then next MAJOR problem it the time it takes to record the picture to the memory card this is truly a frustrating and end all for this camera many comment on it but for me its deal killer and they don't know what a good camera is like. (don't forget i am mostly talking about cheaper digicams) and Kodaks dont have this problem i even used a better brand memory chip no help this camera will only let you down
and its to heavy
battery life is the worst i have ever seen
i am now writing this review now more then 1 year after i bought then because i was just given back the hp from my relative and had to give him a canon A70 i had laying around (great camera but for those who just want a very good SIMPLE digicam stick with Kodaks
