hacknq's Full Review: Hewlett Packard iPAQ h2215 Pocket PC
So many of us try to multitask in so many ways. The idea of taking all of your notes, email, and essentially all electronic forms of media could at times make someone feel overwhelmed. Luckily the HP iPAQ H2215 is a user friendly PDA that a novice user can utilize for many aspects of the term "Media on the Go". Though as a computer and tech junkie I wanted more out of my PDA, I found that in the months I owned my H2215, I abused it as much as possible with every one of its features working hand in hand. With BLUETOOTH capabilities I was able to gain web access anywhere my wireless carrier and my Bluetooth enabled cell phone would allow me. The Motorola ear piece made it safe and easy for me to commute by synchronizing with the cell phone wirelessly without a problem.
In the home front my PDA really didn’t serve me a purpose. I attempted many times to use the touch screen interface as well as the NEVO Universal Remote Control software to control my Harman Kardon surround sound system, my Panasonic DVD player, and my RCA 52" HDTV. My friends would get a kick out of playing pranks on people by programming the PDA to their TV without their knowledge and turning it on and off for a while until they would become highly upset. :) However the downfall was the IR and the line of sight when you were trying to turn the devices on and off. Sometimes you would have to push the on and off button several times before the signal actually worked with the device. I installed a SandDisk 802.11b card with no problem and was able to use it with my Netgear 802.11G Wireless Home Network. This to me was a downfall. All of the SD and CF WiFi cards out on the market today were bulky and increased the size of your PDA. "Why didn’t HP have WiFi built-in?†That’s a question I asked myself all of the time yet never becoming satisfied on possible answers. They had the space for Dual slots for SD and CF, but no room for WiFi?
The DUAL SD and CF slots did come in handy. With a 1GB SD and a 1GB CF card you could add a remarkable 2GB's to your PDA and store tons of music, video, and games. The Windows Media Player supported most formats as WMA and MP3 as well as MPEG. Other software such as MorphGear allowed me to pack up all of my NES, SuperNES, Genesis ,and GBA games into an SD card and play all of them right on my h2215. It was like having one of the hottest multimedia/gaming machines out there.
For the person on the go this PDA is perfect in so many ways yet it lacks the integrated WiFi even though it can be added with bulky cards and it’s an added expense. (MSRP 70+ US Dollars) The size, features, and overall performance of this product make it well worth the money spent. If you would like WiFi such as myself look at other PDA's such as the Dell Axim series. Ever since the Compaq iPAQ days, this PDA has matured in many positive ways. In the past to add Bluetooth and or PCMCIA slots that would offer WiFi for upgradeability you would have to purchase Sleeve's that your PDA docked into and made the unit heavier and alot harder to work with while not mentioning the weight involved. This unit is comfortable and very user friendly. Whether you are trying to play a simple game of Solitaire or read up on your ESPN news, this unit will accommodate your needs and allow you to upgrade past the rest of most of the other PDA's out there.
