Pros: Great Picture, Lots of features
Cons: Horrible reliability
The Bottom Line: I would not recommend this TV to anyone. As a matter of fact the whole Hitachi line is one I would avoid.

| greenham's Full Review: Hitachi 50V500 HDTV-Ready TV |
I have had this Hitachi 50v500 TV for just over 18 mo. It has been serviced 6 times. Fortunately I purchased the Circuit City extended warranty. On a side note the $399 extended warranty was WELL WORTH IT (see below) and the folks at Circuit City Warranty have always taken care of getting service to the house for the repair. Nothing but good things to say about them.
Problem #1 (1month) The image was ghosting. Problem #2 (6 months) the image was just red. Problem #3 (14 months) Blue image. $1500 main board replacement. Problem #4 (15 months) Image ghosting again with new processor board. Problem #5 (17 months) Lamp explodes. Circuit city sends new one for me to install. Simple job. Now Problem #6 (17 months) Replacement lamp unit bad.
We are now waiting for Circuit City to determine if this is a lemon (3x in 1 year is auto replacement. we are 6x in 17 mo)
When the TV works the picture is very clear and brilliant. There are a ton of features with this TV that I have found useful. Things like the universal remote. The ability to look at Compact Flash pictures from my digital camera, just to name a few.
