This is my first and hopefully last projection TV for awhile. I purchased this unit from Sears about 3 weeks ago and so far I am really impressed with the clarity and viewing angle it provides ... not to mention the great sound. I spent a lot of time reading reviews and looking at other models, but by far Hitachi offers the best picture and functions available for the price. DVD viewing is incredible and my only complaint is that there is not a aspect setting for anamorphic DVD's. You can zoom in on the picture, but quite a bit of the picture gets cutoff. I will say, I am extremely impressed with the 4:3 zoom aspect which makes standard TV fill the whole screen. I was expecting short fat people, but somehow it is very proportional.
Viewing programming from Dish Network without a HDTV receiver is better on some channels than others. It lacks the clarity and detail of a DVD, but overall is acceptable and not as good as a 27-36" picture tube television.
The remote was a bit confusing at first and I am still trying to get it to operate my 5000 series dish network receiver. I am sure it will be second nature after a few more weeks.
To wrap up, I am really looking forward to experiencing this television with surround sound and would recommend it to anyone looking at a projection TV.
