As a student I don't have a ton of extra cash at my disposal to blow on all the bells and whistles when it comes to luxury items. That said, I always try to save and make careful purchases of quality brand names with good features for a conservative price. When the boxing day sales came around I saw that this DVD player from Hitachi had come down from $119 to $69 (in Canadian funds), I couldn't pass it up. Hitachi has a great reputation when it comes to video electronics and I was looking for a quality DVD player to go with the Toshiba television I had recently purchased.
The DVP745U player is impressive for it's cost. The body is quite light, which can be positive because it doesn't take up too much space, but negative when it comes to durability. That said, DVD players shouldn't be in the position where they're apt to get thrown around, so the plastic body would be durable enough for proper use. It is mainly made of plastic with a sleek black front and small silver buttons. It is somewhat oddly shaped in that it is quite wide, but also quite slim and not too deep. It's depth is quite convenient if you want to rest it on top of a television set.
The system plays DVDs, DVD-Rs, MP3s, CDs, CD-Rs, and VCDs. The picture and sound quality are above par and the progressive scan is excellent. It comes with quite a nice remote with large, easily readable buttons. The system is quite sophisticated looking and is a great value for the money.
