tf0r1's Full Review: Honeywell Quietcareâ„¢ HCM-650 4 Gallon Humidifier
Living here at the northern New Jersey shore for almost 10 years, I've come to the realization that a humidifier is a must in the dry Sahara type winters that we tend to get..I use to think it was my heaters fault, but after breaking bread with a few neighbors over the years, it became obvious that a humidifier is a must.. Ive owned several humidifiers over the last six years.. I usually purchase one just about every winter, than put it away for the summer. Every winter I bring it up from the basement attempt to clean it up, and usually I break or ruin it by trying to clean out the water stains from the previous winter and discard it in discust.. This year I went to my local Home Depot and purchased one of the last humidifiers on the shelf..The sales rep raved about this model, he said its quite the work horse, and as quiet as a sleeping baby, and for $59 I was hooked... I mean this thing is a beauty to look at, state of the art, hi tech digital appearance..As I took it out of the box and put it together all I could think of was NASA... Anyway, after filling it up and installing the filter and insert I turned it on.. At this point I was no longer thinking of NASA, but now I'm reminded of my cousins old 1968 Dodge Dart with the 426 big block hemi motor with open exhaust..I guess what I'm trying to say is this thing is loud, and I mean freaking LOUD, even on low..I've owned quieter lawn mowers, and as far as I'm concerned it should be called riot care, instead of quiet care.. Needless to say after 30 seconds of operation on low, I'm hateing this thing, and that sales rep too.. Now as I hear my wife about to enter our bed room, I turn the tv on nice and loud, she looks at the new quiet care humidifier and says: wow, that's nice... So, now I've owned it for almost 2 months, and I do have to say we have (pretty much) gotten use to, and almost addicted to the abundance of white noise that this device puts out while we sleep.. The water tank is huge (like an old Plymouth) which means less filling, and yes it really does a good job of putting water in the air..So far, no leaks or mess...Its probably one of the best humidifiers Ive ever owned, meaning that it really does hydrate a large area and is a very effective way to keep the air from drying out..I have noticed that after refilling it, and turning it back on for about the first 30-40 seconds of operation its a bit louder than it normally is, but hey, as long as my neighbors dont call the cops on me, I'm a step ahead. If you like a quiet environment while you sleep this is (most likely) not for you..But, having 3 children, 2 of which are teens, and three dogs; Ive learned that noise is not that big of a deal, and having some backround (white type) noise just might actually drown out the real noise makers in my house...And again, this thing really does an awesome job of hydrating our master (large) bedroom...
