Pros: This machine's self-propelled feature insures easy use. It is powerful enough to pick up cat hair and has been very reliable with no mechanical problems. One of the best available for the price range.
Cons: The attachments are not easily attached and therefore I don't use them as often as I would if they had easy attachment.

| Prepoia's Full Review: Hoover U45900 Premium Bagged Upright Vacuum |
When we had our home built, 20 years ago, we installed the newest and the latest. In this particular case we installed a Central Air Vacuum System. Our house is on three levels, including a walkout, finished basement. We thought that the Central Vacuum system would end the need for hauling around a vacuum cleaner up and down all the stairs and levels of the house. And the amazing thing is that it did! What it didn’t do, however, was get the carpets clean. Our system is located in the basement with outlets (little covered holes in the walls where the vacuum hose plugs in) located in every major room of the house. This system was convenient. One long hose that connected to a head like unit … plug in….vacuum…unplug and hang up the hose. But it just didn’t have enough suction to get out pet hair and upstairs, it didn’t even pick up the largest fuzz items.
So, we went back and bought another canister vacuum. My previous experience had led me to believe that canisters worked best. After a few years of lugging that up and down stairs, we shopped around and found an upright that was priced right for us and which claimed would vacuum the most difficult carpets with ease. I stored the canister model upstairs and kept the upright on the main level. This is the organizational system that has continued to work best at my house. The canister is an older model without all the bells and whistles, but for bedroom areas, which don’t get much traffic, it is doing a fine job.
The Hoover Upright, Self-Propelled Upright is used in the main level, high traffic areas and is doing a superb job.
When I was pregnant with each of my two children, the one thing that really bothered me to do was to vacuum. I don’t know if it was the pushing and pulling motion of vacuuming or not, but I could really feel the sensation in my abdomen area. My mother, who has a heart condition, also finds that she cannot vacuum without it really bothering her. For times like these, the Hoover self-propelled is a wonderful choice. Like the big dog that actually “walks” its owner; the self-propelled Hoover leads and you follow.
Some of the important features include:
…Self-propelled in Forward and Reverse (makes it easy to use)
…a wide 15” head with a dual brush agitator (wider strokes equals less strokes so you're finished faster)
…Edge groomers on both sides of the head that clean close up to the baseboard (you can get close on either side so no awkward places to reach)
…Front covered tool storage that includes: crevice tool, upholstery nozzle, dusting brush and two other attachments that fit on the attached (on the side) Super stretch hose.(This is the only difficult aspect of vacuuming with this machine. The storage is convenient but the hook up isn't)
…Multiple height adjustments
…30-35 foot cord
…99.9% Hoover Type “Y” Allergen Filtration disposable bag and a second filter that is removable and washable
…One year warranty
This machine is very easy to operate. There is a switch at the top that allows you to choose manual or self-propelled. I use the manual on bare floors because the self-propelled zooms you across too quickly and therefore doesn’t vacuum very thoroughly. It also has been known to “zoom” me into the cabinets. The Self-propelled is wonderful for the carpeting. Adjust the height and the self-propelled feature allows you to vacuum without strain and without the pushing, pulling motion that bothers some people.
I really like how closely you can get to the furniture and the baseboards. There are side brushes that help suck in the crumbs and dust. The handle lets you get low to the floor to allow easy access to hard to get places, like under the furniture. This vacuum really does a great job on hard to pick up things, like cat hair. We have a longhaired cat and it really does a nice job of keeping the house free of cat hair.
If you are shopping for a vacuum that is reasonably priced and that does a great job, the Hoover Self-Propelled vacuum should be number one on your list to check out. There may be more expensive and higher powered models, but for the price and the features you really will be happy with this model.
