| susieq112's Full Review: Best Western Branson Landing |
Words could not describe my anger when the Quality Inn in Branson messed up my reservation. The provided us with a room, but not the suite I booked. I was so angry that we left that hotel and went search for another. Since we live about 5 hours away from Branson and had been there before we pretty familiar with the area and searching for hotels wasnt a problem, it was just something I thought I had taken care of before we left.
After driving the strip in Branson (Highway 76) a few times and checking a few prices I decided to just go downtown and stay somewhere I had been before. On my previous visit it was called the Rustic Oak, but now this Best Western labels itself - Landing Inn & Suites. Since my previous stay its obvious that the rooms have been slightly modified and updated, but no extreme overhaul has been done.
Check-In
My first question when I entered was, How much? I bucked a bit at the $79.95 a night charge
Were talking about Branson, there are almost as many hotels as there are regular residents of the town, but I love the location and I was ready to rest for a bit. Checking in was quick and simple. I had to fill out a registration card with my name and car information and provide my credit card and license. Within a few minutes of walking in, I walked back out with two cards for our room.
The Room
I opted for the double bed room. With my son in tow, it meant more sleeping space, which was important. The Best Western Landing View Inn & Suites has full size beds. Preferably I would have Queen size, but this was the same size they had back when I first visited many years ago. The beds were comfortable, just slightly cramped.
Our room also featured a sitting table with two chairs, a large armoire/TV stand, a sitting bench and a night stand between the beds. Housed within the armoire was a mid-size refrigerator and a small microwave. An alarm clock was also conveniently located on the night stand.
The bathroom area was to the back of the room. Here there is a two door closet with mirrored doors, they also have marble top sinks located out of the closed bathroom area which houses the shower/tub and the toilet.
Cleanliness
Our room(s) were clean. The room didnt give off a sparkling clean feeling with a bit of dust and debris in the corners, but our linens, furniture, and most importantly the bathroom was in great condition.
In Room Amenities
Our room didnt include a lot of extras, but the hotel does have an iron and ironing board hid in the closet. They also offer up free coffee packets and small coffee maker in the room also. Along with that youll also find a few brochures laid out on the table which you may find some decent coupons in for local Branson attractions.
Issue #1
Have you ever seen the commercial where the guy in laying in his hotel room and you hear a jack-hammer in the background. Well, guess what? Apparently, this Best Western needed some plumbing worked on, on our first night
. We didnt hear in jack hammers, but there was plenty of banging and drilling going on. When 9 Oclock got pretty close, we finally called the front desk
A woman told us she would check on it and we received a call back about 5 minutes later, reporting that they were finishing up and would be finished within 15 minutes.
The banging eventually stopped - for awhile. Later that night I would occasionally hear someone hammering or drilling, but the activity never escalated to what it had been previously.
Breakfast
The next morning, my son and I made our way down to the continental breakfast offered by the hotel. While the spread wasnt extremely impressive, I was able to fill myself up, somewhat.
Breakfast consisted of about 5 different cereal options, waffles you could cook, 3 different types of bread for toasting, pecan twirls, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, milk, juice and coffee.
Issue #2
By this point weve had one night of construction and a decent day out in Branson. It is only afternoon, so were just taking a mid-day break. Our room is non-smoking so I step out the door to smoke. Within a few minutes my son opens the door and comes out also. He wants back in, in another few minutes, so he starts pulling on the door handle. A few minutes go by and apparently Dad is on the other side of the door, but the door handle has fallen off on that side
!?! A quick call to the front desk and the young man that checked us in tries to unlock the door from the outside - no luck. Eventually my boyfriend fixes the handle from the inside with a screw that had fallen out.
We are quickly, asked if we would like to switch rooms, and we do move to the next room.
Location
The main reason I find myself recommending this hotel is purely its location. The Best Western Landing View Inn & Suites is within one-block of the downtown shops and only 3 blocks from the Landing Area. Sure The Landing at the lake front features The Hilton, but there hotels price is at its lowest about $120 a night, which leaves it a bit out of our budget.
If your planning on seeing shows while in Branson, you will probably have to drive to those. Many of the shows and attractions are located on Highway 76 (the same road), but much further up the road. Summer driving can be a bit hectic in Branson, but it is bearable.
While we were in Branson we enjoyed the location of this hotel, but did have to drive to a few attractions that we wanted to see.
Friendly Staff?
Why, yes! By far I felt sorry for the young man that checked me in. Right off the bat he told me it was like his 2nd day working, and it was obvious. When came down to try and unlock our busted door he had a look of disbelief in his eyes, moreover he looked like he was thinking about getting another job.
Regardless, the staff of the hotel was extremely pleasant and helpful. When I located a discount coupon for the hotel after check-in I asked the front desk about honoring the rate. At first she said they could only honor it for our second night, but upon check-out I noticed she gave me the discounted rate for both nights.
Our hotel ended up costing us $136 for 2 nights, which is about average for chain hotels within the Branson area.
Overall
Yes, I recommend the Best Western Landing Inn & Suites. The problems that we encountered during our stay were pretty abnormal (in my opinion). There was no construction work on our second night and the door (well, who knows?), maybe they need to do a bit of maintenance or maybe my son just jerked on the handle one too many times.
Like I said the location of this hotel is wonderful, youre a mere 3 blocks from the lake, plus you have all of those stores and restaurants to choose from and you dont even have to get in your car!
