I stayed here for business in March 2005. I loved it. This was such a great hotel! At $180 a night, it was not a cheap hotel, but you really got more than you would expect for the price. You would think it was a much more expensive hotel based on the atmosphere, spacious and well-stocked rooms, and friendly and accommodating service.
Cortez Restaurant and Bar We had some great restaurants in the area, but who would have guessed the best one would be right in our own hotel? This tapas restaurant had the most delicious food and a classy and trendy atmosphere. If you are unfamiliar with tapas, this is how it works: with a large group, each person at the table picks one of the dishes and then the waiter brings out 2 of each of the dishes and everyone shares. Alternately, you can just order 3 dishes for yourself. We did the former and every single dish was to die for! Even the ones that I didn't think I would like. The wine was also fabulous. And the desserts were out of this world! This restaurant was pretty expensive, but I didn't pay because I was on business travel. However, I would go there even if I did have to pay. I also had breakfast there and it was good. Later at night, the restaurant takes on kind of a classy bar/lounge atmosphere. A very nice place to hang out with your travel companions.
The room My room cost $180 a night. It had a huge bed, a couch, a couch-like chair, a table, a desk, high-speed internet (important since I needed to do a lot of work on my laptop at night), a big tv (which I never turned on), Nintendo games (which I never played, but was pretty excited that there were Nintendo games), a mini-bar, a coffee-maker, Aveeda products, hair dryer, an alarm clock, and I'm sure there were other things as well, but it was a month ago and my memory is fading. The room was comfortable, spacious, clean, and attractive. I really liked the set up of the couch, chair and table. Although none of my co-workers came to my room, I could tell it would be a great little area for you and some co-workers to sit down and have a meeting or prepare for the next day.
Surrounding area This hotel is in Union Square and is in close proximity to some good shopping and the Moscone Convention Center (a short cab ride away for each). The location was chosen because we were there for a convention in the HUGE Moscone Convention Center. If you are having a convention there, this is a really good location for you and your co-workers to stay. The cab ride is about 5 minutes and costs $6 or $8. Cabs are readily available. There are some really good restaurants in walking distance.
The front desk SO friendly and SO helpful! They would hail cabs for us and dealt with our many packages coming in and out. We were also constantly leaving things with them and coming back to get things. All the guys that work there are really, really good-looking. They also gave directions and recommendations.
Car service The hotel will arrange a car for you to the airport. It is cheaper than taking a taxi.
