Pros: Breakfast, proximity to some attractions
Cons: Plumbing, lack of staff, lack of any scenery
The Bottom Line: You can get an ocean front in town room with no plumbing problems thats adequately staffed for roughly the same rate you'll pay at La Quinta!

| jmkinney's Full Review: La Quinta Inn and Suites Newport |
Our first experience staying at not only the Newport, Oregon La Quinta but any La Quinta was not good! You can find an ocean front room comparable to the cost of La Quinta without the need to plunge your toilet each time you use it or without needing to wait 10 minutes for your sink to drain after washing your hands or brushing your teeth.
Our first night at this LaQuinta came complete with a clogged toilet that required plunging after each use (plunger offered at no extra charge though!), a bathroom sink that would not drain after each hand washing or tooth brushing and a fire alarm & evacuation at 3:00 AM after an employee burned popcorn in the microwave. After spending 30 minutes out in the 40 degree temperature complete with wind & rain, we were finally allowed back in the hotel but unable to use the elevator to access our 3RD FLOOR room so we had to hike up all the stairs. Not a great start!
After complaining about the plumbing, we were informed there were no other rooms available and that the front desk person was the only one there and she would gladly bring us a plunger to solve the problem ourselves. Plunging our toilet and being unable to wash our hands or brush our teeth was NOT how we wanted to spend our vacation!
The following morning, we asked again to have the plumbing looked at on our way out the door to enjoy our day and upon our return that afternoon, we found nothing had been done.
Each day, I asked housekeeping for extra shampoo (3 women with long hair & one small bottle of shampoo doesn't work!). Each time I was assured that there would be extra bottles left and there never was.
There are many cons to this hotel... The lack of adequate number of staff to serve various needs (like our clogged toilet & stopped up sink), staff is not knowledgeable on places to go or eat at. (We asked each employee on several shifts where a good place to eat was located and were answered with responses like, "I don't really know" or "I haven't got a clue"...)
On the plus side...
The waffle breakfast was great, but I think more than 2 waffle irons are required for a hotel with no vacancy! We waited in long lines to make our waffles because each waffle required 2 minutes & 20 seconds to bake!
Pets are allowed and there's even a separate little dog walking area with baggies & a trash can for you to clean up after your pet!
Bottom Line... You can stay in an ocean front room in town for pretty much the same amount of money you'll pay to rent a room from La Quinta. Next time, that's what we'll do too!
