| ginaav's Full Review: Hoyle Board Games 2000 for Windows |
Ever since I was a young child, I have always enjoyed playing board games. Being an only child, however, I could not get the full enjoyment. Playing against your dolls and stuffed animals is just not the same.
When I got my computer a few years, a favorite software purchase was the several board games I had enjoyed as a child. Monopoly, Life, among others, but I could not find what I wanted in the smaller board games such as checkers, chess, dominoes. Of course there are plenty of versions of these games available for download on the Internet, but they were not of the same quality as the big name games.
This year I found the perfect game solution to my board games fix. Hoyle Board Games from Sierra Attractions. I bought it for 29.99 at the local software store. It contains 14 popular games that include childhood favorites and some new introductions. The games included are Backgammon, Battling Ships, Checkers, Chess, Chinese Checkers, Dominoes, Line 'em Up, Mancala, Pachisi, Placer Racer, Reversi, Snakes & Ladders, Yacht, and Zen Bones.
Hoyle Board Games is extremely high quality and can work on any Windows system from a 486 on up. You can customize the look and feel by playing in one of three environments: normal, space and cabin.
You play against computerized opponents and you can control everything about them as well from choosing the one you want to play against to how much they interact with you. The player can also create their own persona using FaceMaker. You can choose everything from hair color, eye color and clothing.
Playing the games is also fun. It is almost as if you are playing the real thing because you are interacting with the other opponent and making moves based on what they do and say. Within certain games, you can also can customize the version of the game you want to play (Zen Bones, Mancala, Dominoes)
Each year Hoyle releases a new version of the game with new games. I bought the 2000 version. Looked at the 2001 version at the store, but I think I am happy with what I have right now.
Hoyle Board Games is a great gift for your child or yourself. I use it as a fun release after a busy day writing. For those of you looking for the perfect gift for your board game nut, this is it. A must-buy! In fact anything by Hoyle is a must-buy!
