Pros: Incredible picture
Cons: Doesn't work with new technology. USB ports are useless.
The Bottom Line: Do NOT buy this unit until Tivo allows for the use of their new features and the USB ports.

While this unit records and plays back a tremendous HDTV picture, if you like the features that Tivo brags about (such as web-based recording, sharing between Tivos, and use of the Internet to dial-in via USB ports), you will be sadly disappointed.
This DirectTivo disables the USB ports on the back allowing them for 'future use', which is nowhere in site. This unit has the same functionality as a series one Tivo. So, you can see the dilemma: If you want VoIP, and you have this unit, you are stuck after 30 days.
Also, if you want to get VoIP, such as Vonage, you are in for a rough time, as Tivo does not support dialing in over VoIP. So, if you want to embrace new technology, such as VoIP, as many people do, you will be out of luck with this stuck-in-the-past Tivo unit.
Straight from Tivo: "DIRECTV receivers (standard, DVR and HD) are designed to work with land based telephone line connections and are not compatible with VoIP services. DIRECTV does not support the Home Media Option (currently available only for stand alone TiVo recorders) and DIRECTV DVR receivers are not capable of networking or communication via a network or Internet connection. Unfortunately the only solution I am aware of is a land based telephone line connection that will allow the receivers to download guide information and software updates. "
A $1,000 waste of money.
