How in the world did we survive all these decades without it? Now if it is broken it is as serious as our car not running. I have had DirecTV since 2001 and upgraded to TiVo a couple years ago. Fell madly in love and have upgraded Receivers and Dishes since to accommodate HDTV.
There is no comparison and you could not give me cable. I have an onscreen guide with details (And the price for what you get is unbeatable compared to other systems) There is nothing cooler than programming your TV to watch what you want when you want! The remote system is not complicated and the TV tells you what you need to do. Extremely easy to use and understand.
Reboots and resets itself when needed. The newer systems are far superior to the originals and much easier to use and understand. I recommend letting the Company earn their money by doing the install for you, but the upkeep and maintenance is a breeze.
The only real drawback (and it will really make you mad) is when you set it to record a show and it cuts you off 4 minutes before the ending. I will admit they are working on the issue and it has only happened once in the last month and I truly live for and by mine. If it goes out of whack I am on he phone so fast to Tech support it is not even funny.
It gives crisp, clean, TV when viewing HDTV. Another super cool invention with DTV and TiVo. Many actors complain as the screen is so lifelike that you see those minor flaws (break out more make-up) but really now you got to admit this is a cool setup?
Tivo and DTV are killing commercials, why? We can fast forward right through them. You have a built in Data Base so you can see what is coming on with your favorite Actors, Shows, Movies, etc. You can set for a Movie (or certain actors) to automatically be recorded when they do appear if not found in any upcoming events (shows up to 2 weeks in advance).
Now has folders to categorize your shows in. It just keeps getting better and better. You want to see Old Movies, Comedies, Drama, Horror, Suspense? No problem go to that DB and look them up, it will give you the next 2 weeks that are being featured. You can set it to Automatically Record your favorites. With this system what more could you ask for and makes cable almost obsolete (it is for me as I said you could NOT give it to me). No matter what you want to see you can find it, it has a Wish List, Just too much to list!
Now with the model I have now I can record a lot of movies, TV shows, My daily Soaps and anything else my heart desires. Do I say you need this, NO! You MUST have this in your home. It's the coolest thing to date. In TV evolution that is.
There CS 95% is GREAT! They will give you free stuff if you have been a good paying customer and been with them for awhile. I get premium channels and pay for one. I mean I get them all and only pay ½ prices for one. Just have to get the right rep on the phone and talk to them. They will help you and like I said 95% are really nice people.
Suggestion, pay the little extra for the protection plan, if you have any problems they have to A, come out to your home for free to take care of problem, B, if they can do it from a phone it costs you nothing and when they installed my Dual Dish I ask how much it cost without the plan
you do not want to know the answer. Trust me get the protection plan for about $6 bucks a month!
There are many greats to this System, but if I keep I will have written a book. A small set of tips to leave on.
To make sure you do NOT miss any of your pre-recorded program record the one coming on after it.
Read the emails they send you will find many Great FREEBIES, and suggest to others as I predict DTV will be the main TV System of our future. If anyone has any questions please email me, I will do my best to answer anything I may have missed.
