Pentium M. Finally, laptops with long battery life and seemless intergration of wifi-- the built in features you can appreciate and have been waiting for.
While 1.3ghz and 256 megs of ram isn't real fast to todays standards, this laptop is more than enough. I always hated laptops for the lack of upgrability options, and I still do, but they are quite nice to have, if you have a nice one. The Thinkpad is just that. A real nice one. It is slimmer and lighter to most of laptops I've seen or used, it packs a lot of power in a little case. Battery life always being one of the top most important things, it sure is a performer in this catagory. The Thinkpad boasts about 5-6 hours of battery life, and it delivers. While I don't do too much hardcore computing besides web surfing via wifi, its bar none the best I've used.
IBM, ususally clonks together all there drivers, and I have to say, you don't notice much of them thanks to the help of Windows XP. The thinkpad's keyboard is excellent as ususal with very little of "lets move this most commonly used key over here to have it fit and it'll take forever to figure out where they are."
The best part of the keyboard is that it has the old style mouse stick, and a trackpoint, so you can use either or, and have them both work at the same time. Excellent excellent excellent.
Built-in Wifi works seemlessly and I don't have antennas or extra PC cards hanging on the side. The ability to hot swap cdroms and floppies is no problem, and works much better with XP than previous models. You get the same great features in a Thinkpad you used to, just with better Operating System abilities.
It even has a little light on top of the monitor which doesn't really help me much, but its kind of a cool feature for maybe an airplane..
Another great feature its hibernating/standby features. I just close the lid and walk away. I have mine set to sleep in 10 minutes of no activity with the power cable out, and hibernate after 30 minutes. Let me tell you, to resume windows from hibernation takes about 20-25 seconds and I'm back surfing the web. Amazing.
