I bought this laptop to replace my Comapq 1722US PIII 1.13 ghz and boy was I glad I did it.
The Compaq hinge to the LCD was very fragile. You can feel the looseness of the LCD and with the T40, you can open and close it as much as you want and it still feels like it's on there stable. Battery life is great. I can watch a whole DVD on the battery and still have plenty of battery time to surf the internet and do some light chatting.
The only thing I was disappointed in was the built in wireless. I have the 802.11 a/b combo card and the range is not that great with my D-Link 614+. I tried switching channels and still did not help. I then tried my old Orinoco gold and silver classic cards. Much better range than with the built in card.
Some of the things I didn't really care for with the IBM was the "hidden" image. I would rather install the apps myself. This is good though for those who don't know how to install an operating system and configure it themselves.
SXGA display is nice and bright.
