years later... (Reply to this comment)

My day time unit is a T42; sounds a lot like your T40 with a few more bells and whistles.
Nice review.

Does this means while you are using this convenience this poor person is not receiving calls and cannot place them? Or does it mean that you are piggybacking their connection and possibly slowing down the service they are paying for?
You are right in that I am sure the ISPs will soon find a way to block this from happening.
The latter is correct. Is is piggybacking on them. From what my daughter told me since she lives next door to her "pig" it doesn't slow down their service at all. The boys are not affected by this technology. Their actually is already a way that people can block the ability for someone to do this so you'd have to not only find someone online but someone who hasn't blocked it. I guess the best bet is to make sure if you are doing this that the people (as in my daughter's neighbors) are aware of it and have approved it.

I will take that out because I think it is confusing to people. No it doesn't have any affect on the person's computer, phone line, etc. My daughter mentioned in the review was asked about that (with the boys) and she said that it doesn't even affect the loading of pages, etc. etc. Again, I will just remove that realizing that some either have a problem with that. Thanks for pointing it out. jo

Another example: If we were at a campground that had no modem, thus no computer access, we could drive around the neighborhood and find a house that had one. We would no because we would get Internet service. Of course the house would have to have their computer turned on so finding a hospital or library would ensure that we could always get online while traveling. To me, still fairly technologically challenged this is an amazing feat and one that I cant express how much I love!
Jo, I am just letting you know that I am not rating this because I have a problem with this advice. From what it sounds like, you are using their modem and their computer as your own. Their computer would have to connect to the internet through their phone line to accomodate you. Does this means while you are using this convenience this poor person is not receiving calls and cannot place them? Or does it mean that you are piggybacking their connection and possibly slowing down the service they are paying for?

LOL well that were my daughter's words since they are sold in the stores for that purpose according to her. She did say that when the ISPs catch on she imagines they'll do something about it (sort of like downloading music!) but until then, starving med students will help each other if they aren't breaking the law. jo
