Cartman_2k's Full Review: I'm Gonna Be Alright [Maxi Single] by Jennifer Lop...
I’m not going to hide it; I am definitely not a fan of Jennifer Lopez. She’s an incredibly hot woman and she does know how to act and dance, but singing is not something that she is particularly good at. I liked her first single If You Had My Love and Waiting for Tonight, but it all seemed to go downhill from there. Her second album J.Lo, revealed Jennifer’s limited voice, and how monotonous her songs really were.
Hey! Hold On! Who Is This Jennifer Lopez woman?
I don’t know what planet you’ve been living on if you haven’t heard of Jennifer Lopez, but if you haven’t, here’s your chance to find out a little bit about her. Jennifer Lynn Lopez was born in Bronx, New York City on 24th of July 1970. When she was a child she liked to dance and sing, and when she was 16 she made her film debut in the movie My little girl. She continued acting and dancing, and in 1990 she became a fly girl in In Living Color starring Jim Carrey. Jennifer had a few minor appearances in some unsuccessful tv-shows (she was also a dancer in the Janet Jackson music video That’s the way love goes), but it was enough to get her a role in the movie that would make her famous. Money Train wasn’t a big movie, but big enough for Jennifer to be sought after. Many of us first saw Jennifer in Selena, where she portrayed the life of the murdered star Selena Quintanilla. In this movie she sung a lot, and that’s what made Jennifer pursue her long-lost dreams of singing. It took her a couple of years (in the meantime she made a few movies, including Anaconda and Out of Sight) before she got signed with a record label, but her first single was a smash hit, and ever since Jennifer Lopez has been a well-known singer.
In early 2002, Jennifer decided to milk the cow a little bit more, and she made remixes of all her hits, and this is the third remix which is released as a single, I’m Gonna Be Alright.
This maxi single contains 3 songs and the “I’m gonna be alright” video.
I’m Gonna Be Alright is actually the second song on the single, but I just have to review the original song that is on the J.Lo album first. It was actually one of my favorite songs on J.Lo, and the quality and the lyrics stood out from the crowd of wretched songs. The music, the lyrics and everything is pop and R&B. The synthesizer is used too much in the music, and it does sound like something that could have been made in the early 90’s, and it’s not very ingenious either. Jennifer has a whole bunch of backup singers to hide her pathetic voice, and she doesn’t really make an effort to hide it when it’s just her that’s singing either. But, songs like Baby one more time and Liquid Dreams weren’t good because of the versatile music and the talented singers, and that’s the case with I’m gonna be alright as well. Those songs were good because they were so catchy and the choruses were good, and the same thing goes for this song. The lyrics on those songs weren’t too smart, however the lyrics on this song aren’t too shabby.
Could I expect so much from you?
You had a girl when I first met you
Did the best that you could do
Now I realize that I can't change you
I’m Gonna Be Alright Feat. Nas (Track Masters Remix) ruins the whatever was good about the original one. If you’ve heard the original I’m Real and Ain’t It Funny, you know that they were decent pop songs, but the remixes of them were in my opinion truly crappy. This remix is no exception. I’ve never been a big fan of Nas, he is a boring rapper with boring songs. The music on the remix is gloomy, and it absolutely does not go with the lyrics. The lyrics are about the girl that is going to be alright, but it seems like the girl rather would commit suicide if you listen to the music. The original version was catchy partly because the music and the song fit so well together. On the remix the song just seems out of place and totally doesn’t fit with the music.
Walking on Sunshine (Metro Remix) doesn’t exactly help to make the single any better. The original version was (and still is) the worst song I’ve ever heard from Jennifer Lopez, with its totally dorky lyrics, and totally offbeat music. The remix has music that resembles Waiting for tonight’s, but it sounds like a cheap rip off. It is okay to have cheap rip offs, but they should at least have the decency to put it in a place where it fits, not on a song like this one.
I’m Gonna Be Alright (remix) Video is not only dead sexy, but also pretty funny. Even though Jennifer’s music may not be very good, it doesn’t change the fact that she is one of the sexiest women alive. The whole video is about Jennifer getting to show off her body while she’s basking in the sun. The funny part is when she’s doing her laundry; she wears hair rollers and a headscarf but at the same time she wears make up that makes her so hot it should be illegal. It’s a nice video, and it will probably be the reason why many people buy the single; it was partly the reason why I bought it.
But I did it
After telling everybody that I wasn't with it
Though it brings tears to my eyes
I can feel it
And that voice inside says I'm gonna be alright
I have to say that I was disappointed by this single. I guess I had it coming buying the single in the first place, but somewhere deep inside I guess I believed that the whole single would have the same quality as original song had. I was wrong. I don’t think it’s a good idea to buy this single unless you really feel the need see a video where Jennifer’s clothing is reduced to a minimum, or you are a hardcore fan of Jennifer and buy every single she releases. The original song is okay, and the video is good as well, but definitely not worth spending 6 dollars on. I suggest you just watch MTV and see the video whenever it pops up on the screen.
With all that said, I’d let her be my girl any day even if she’s not a good singer.
