Pros: Phenomenally good highs
Cons: Average mid-bass and no low-end frequency response
The Bottom Line: Not the best one can do, especially if run alone, but paired with a good subwoofer, they are excellent.

I have a pair of these in my 99 Jetta III right now, bought for $99.99 at Circuit City and I have mixed feelings about them. Yes, they perform phenomenally loud, but only if you don't push too much bass through them. I'm running them without amplification off of an Alpine CDA-9827 and just can't get them to take bass without distortion. I'm not cranking my bass level up beyond +2 and it normally bottoms out at about volume level 15 with MX activated, about 18 without (both volume levels are suitable for driving on the highway with the windows down). On a plus note, the swiveling tweeters do a wonderful job of filling in the sound stage for door-mount installations if you don't feel like putting in a set of kick panels.
In the back of my car, I'm using a set of Alpine SPS-171A components which respond BEAUTIFULLY to high, medium, and low tones. If it weren't for those, I'd have no low end in my system right now. I would upgrade to a set of 6x9s in the back, but a Jetta simply can't house it without an expensive custom install.
Bottom line? Without a subwoofer, if these are the only speakers you're using in your compartment, you're going to get phenomenal highs, some relatively good mids, but no LFE. For those planning to add a subwoofer to a system, you should have no problem filling in the lower end and, for the cost, you're picking up a beautiful set of 6.5s. If you can afford to go the extra mile and put a set of component speakers in your car, go a step up to the Alpine SPS-171A. Frequency response is better (by about 20 Hz on the low end) and sound quality will be clearer due to the crossovers.
Many kudos to the car audio people at my local Circuit City as they've been able to help me in any direction I've chosen to go.
