The Bottom Line: Highly recommend, easy to travel with and long battery life.
I do a lot of travelling so the weight and features are very important to me!

I had never bought a notebook before but learned by trial and error how different they are from desktops. After buying an HP, Compaq, Gateway and even an Inspiron 1100 (too big, heavy and bulky for travelling) I decided to try one last time, for the Inspiron 500m. Thought ordering it was a challenge, Dell CS is just not there, I did receive it promptly, but missing the CDRWDVD combo drive. Trying to get that was such a task. Two days of phone calls each about 5 hours long with holds, tranfers to wrong departments and they still don't have my zip code right, though I think everybody at Dell has changed it. As far as the notebook goes, its wonderful. The Pentium M Centrino processor runs fast and cool. Windows XP home has caused no problems and I was able to download a patch from Microsoft that would let me run older programs. All software and hardware has loaded with no problems. I think the display is great. The keyboard has a good solid feel. Battery time has been excellent, 4 hours. I have loaded 3-D games and they run fine. It has two USB ports but I installed a hub with four ports and am running a printer, zip drive, scanner and my digital camera. I have had so much fun with this notebook and would recommend to anyone. Definitely get at least 256 mg ram, you can upgrade as needed.
