Pros: Onboard fan control, good onboard sound/video, support for Prescott, 4xDDR slots.
Cons: No onboard NIC, fan control doesn't adjust itself soon enough.
The Bottom Line: As long as you don't need too many PCI slots, this is a great board. Onboard graphics are good, but for gaming you'll need to use that AGP slot.
s-o-m-e-g-u-y's Full Review: Intel D865GLC Motherboard
My first impression of this board that it was very vanilla. A standard board, standard features (although no NIC), standard price. By the end of the install however, the board was anything but vanilla! This board is a champ, as it's price and features match and beat many other quality boards. Also, it does support the new Prescott CPU (be it the Celeron, P4, or P4EE). Be careful though, those things run HOT!
The first thing that I noticed about this board was that it had serial ata onboard. While I wasn't using it, it's always nice to have for future expansion if need be. The board also COMES with the SATA cable, which I thought was a very nice touch.
The second big thing, as that Intel has a fan speed reduction system. This is nice, because with a CPU fan, and three 80mm case fans (front, side, back) it tends to get a little noisey. Any fan connected to a 3-pin motherboard connector will automatically have it's speed reduced, based on the temperature of the CPU. My only real concern with this is that it doesn't start to ramp up the speed of the fans till the CPU gets about 52C, which is a little high for my taste. Otherwise though, it's a GREAT feature that I would've paid much more for!
Aside from those two very nice aspects, the board just plain performed like a champ. It was a very easy install, as they didn't put any screwholes in any odd spots. The onboard Intel "Extreme" graphics were decent, although I wouldn't have minded being able to alocate more than 16mb of ram to it. Onboard sound was very good, didn't stutter or falter once. I also liked how Intel installed the HSF retention bracket prior to shipping. It made the install much, much faster.
My only real beef with this board is the fan control, and lack of an onboard NIC. Granted, they do offer a model with an onboard NIC (the D865GLCL), and while I really, really liked the fan control, I'd have liked to see it kick in sooner.
