| chaostheorem's Full Review: FID Irock 860 (256 MB) MP3 Player |
After doing a great deal of research, I finally decided on picking up the iRock 860. The main reason? Battery life. All 30 hours of it... on a single AA battery!
If you look at other devices such as the iPod or Nomad, the battery life could be anywhere from 4 hours to 12 hours. Since I often travel cross-country and sometimes have to fly overseas, a long battery life means a lot to me.
Getting batteries-on-the-go isn't really cheap either: try buying a pack of (4) AA batteries in a Hong Kong airport versus buying them at a local retailer, and you'll see what I mean.
In addition to the incredible battery lifespan and inherent value it brings to the unit, the iRock 860 also has a wide range of other features such as playlist repeat/shuffle/random, 2-button volume control and song change at the touch of a dial, and a handy "hold" function to help keep the music playing even if you accidentally brush the song change dial or press the off button.
Also, in addition to being able to MP3/WMA/WAV files, the iRock 860 has a built-in FM radio!
What about mobility? This unit is really tiny. I can easily mount it inside my front pocket. I'm also a sucker for blue lights on electronic devices, and this unit has a sharp, clear blue LCD display which shows the battery life, song title, and play time.
Lastly, the iRock 860 comes with a leather protection case with clip, USB cable, and driver CD. Excellent value for the money.
The only real drawback I've found is that the sound isn't as high-quality as other players. Sometimes the bass doesn't come in as deep as it would on my computer's sound system, or certain sounds don't come through that clearly. However given this, I'd still recommend the iRock 860!
