Pros: Easy to use.
Good quality recordings.
Cons: Far too Unreliable.
Not worth the risk.
The Bottom Line: So many good alternatives. No reason to take a chance on a 'faulty' model.

This DVD Recorder would be great but alas it has major flaws.
I bought one just after Christmas and it seemed fine for two days. However I soon had problems with recorded data. I recorded two 1 hour programmes in short play watched them and deleted them. Although the indication was that the disk was now empty with 2 hours SP recording time left. I could not record on the disk for more than a few minutes without the machine shutting down. I formatted the disk and tried recording again this seemed to work. However, whilst watching the latest recording I kept getting intermittent images of the previous recording, phasing in and out during the current one (very annoying)even though the disc was supposed to formatted!
I also had problems recording using the timer. It was unreliable and would often shut down half-way through a recording. On one occasion the machine shut down displaying the 'loading' sign for over 5 minutes. Even after unplugging the machine and turning it on again the message persisted until eventually the machine 'decided' to start functioning again.
After about ten days I decided to return the machine. I figured it was just a fault on my original machine and was happy to take a replacement. Within a few days I started to get similar faults with the second machine and eventually decided I would be better off to get a refund rather than risk getting a third faulty machine.
When it works the recording quality is good for both sound and picture. But I would seriously consider looking at other DVD recorders until JVC are able to rectify the faults on this machine. If they do and you can pick one up for around £200 you've got a great deal. If not invest elsewhere. You have been warned.
