| tufftoonia's Full Review: JVC DR-MV1 DVD Recorder / VCR Combo |
I purchased this JVC DR-MV1S DVD Recorder/VCR Combo a few days before Christmas 2004. We have barely used the thing having only watched DVD's about 2-3 times weekly and having only made 2 VCR tapes from my Sony camcorder with no problem.
I actually had no problems with it until March 9, 2005 when my grandchild played Spiderman in the VCR side of the machine, rewound it, and then played it again. After that, I tried to turn the machine off with the Remote but the Remote buttons would not work anything on the unit at all, and the Blue Light on face of the machine was flashing "Loading". None of the buttons on the DVD/VCR face would work either and neither would any of the buttons on the Remote! It just kept flashing "LOADING".
I phoned JVC and they say they are familiar with the problem. They said the flashing blue "LOADING" light means a "major problem" on the carriage or control. They said if I will ship it back, they will repair it by "adding a couple of capacitors and give it the software upgrade it needs" and that "should" fix the problem. Upon asking them more questions, they said that to add capacitors, they'll sauter a few more things onto the control board.
I complained that I spent a lot of money, over $350, for a piece of equipment with the JVC name on it and that knowing that they sold it with a 'control board' with known problems was ridiculous.
Since the unit is less than 90 days old, the 90 day parts and labor warranty is still in effect luckily. (maybe) I phoned JVC and they expected me to pay shipping to their nearest factory facility for repair. It is not clear whether the 90 day Parts and Labor warranty will be extended after the unit is returned to me. I find that and unsatisfactory answer too.
I don't plan to buy JVC products again.
