Pros: Easy to use.
Good looking case and front panel.
Cons: Blinking 'loading' message -reset- problem.
The Bottom Line: Well, I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. It has a serious design flaw.

I like the device in general except the problem described in the other reviews.
The blinking 'Loading' message symptom appeared about 6 months later. During DVD recording or playing the device resets itself and goes back to the initial setup mode (the infamous blinking loading message).
It did some research and found out that the device has a design flaw that leads to a high level of heat production even when the device is turned off. The cooling fan does not run when the device is turned off and in combination with the design flaw I mentioned above, it gets too hot even when it is turned off. Touch it when it is turned off at the top right side of the box, and you will feel it. When turned on later it is already too hot and playing or recording a DVD increases the inside temperature to a level where the device shuts off to protect its power source from burning; hence the reset mode.
The workaround to the above problem is unplug it when not used. It won't get too hot and if it is in a well ventilated environment it won't go to the 'reset' mode. It is all about keeping it cool.
I am really disappointed by this design flaw of the device. It really decreased the level of trust I have for JVC products.
