Pros: Technically good and versatile machine
Cons: Bad product support
The Bottom Line: The fact that the remote control ceased to function after five weeks and the lack of JVC product support should be considered when buying this product.

Bought JVC machine from Circuit City on February 7th, 2003. 5 weeks later, remote control 'enter' button ceased to function. JVC has a special policy - your local retailer cannot help you, you have to call JVC (an endless series of menus before you get a human) and then I was instructed to mail the unit back to JVC for replacement.
They received it last Thursday (March 3,signature receipt) but 5 days have passed and I have heard nothing from them (gave them fax, phone and email).
The technical quality (video and sound) is good. You can dub from non-protected DVDs to tape. Programming the device is complicated, and real operation of the machine (choosing record and playback speed, for instance, not to mention delayed recording) is dependent on the remote.
This is the first time I have had a remote device fail to function. The failure of the device combined with the difficulty in getting JVC product support is something to remember if you are contemplating the purchase of this machine.
Consider this if you buy a JVC product.
