Pros: Combined, compact VCR and DVD player. DVD plays MP3's as well.
Cons: Poor construction, unreliable, can't assess tape progress during playback, slow DVD mp3 playback
The Bottom Line: Avoid this product. JVC quality control fell through on this model

| gasman123's Full Review: JVC HR-XVC25 DVD Player / VCR Combo |
Within days after purchasing this unit on sale from a regular retail dealer, the VCR component ceased to be able to record images. Rather, it could record, but with so much garbled junk on it as to render the image unviewable.
I therefore will proceed with this review with the caution that this unit is one to be avoided.
The VCR contains standard functions, although it fails to display time remaining or any intelligible progress information on a tape that has been recorded. This makes skipping extremely difficult. Fast forwarding is also a guessing game, since it is unclear sometimes whether the remote signal has been received and the unit is actually playing, fast forwarding, or rewinding.
I cannot assess programming or recording issues too well since the unit fails to function at all in that regard.
The DVD player has standard features, plus it can play MP3 files. One reason I purchased the unit was to be able to load a DVD filled with MP3's for hours. However, I did not anticipate that it would take a proportionately long time to load the mp3 list, and hence by the time the disc is loaded and ready to be played I've simply started listening to a 2nd CD on my regular CD player.
In a nutshell, the JVC quality is lacking in this unit and while the features and compact nature of the unit are a good idea, the implementation is abysmal. I see no way this product can be recommended.
