| jltreadaway's Full Review: JVC XM-R70SL Personal MiniDisc Player |
To start off, I want to say that most of my problems are with MiniDisc players in general, not the particular one.
MiniDisc players take the exact time that it takes to play the songs. So if you want to record an entire city, expect to spend an hour or more recording. With a MP3 player or cd burning, you can record songs at a much faster rate. Another problem is that the sound quality isn't digital. The quality is only as good as your sound card, since that is what you hook the thing up to. If your sound card isn't very good, or if you don't even have one, then you're out of luck. You can record from some fancy cd players, but I have yet to see one with the capabilities.
This particular player is pretty good. I did have a few problems though. For one, only the remote lights up. In the pictures that I saw it looked like the actual player lit up, but that isn't so. That was very disappointing to me because I don't always use the remote. Another problem is the way it records. You are supposed to be able to put a cd in, and it will record as soon as it hears sound. That sounds nice, but I can rarely get it to work.
Also, the headphones aren't very good. They look pretty ugly compared to some of the new ones that I have seen. They also sound pretty bad. The player itself also seems to not play loud enough.
On the other hand, the player looks awfully cool, as most MD players do. The remote control can be clipped to your shirt for when you go running or any other activity. The player can fit right into your pocket, too. This is something I found disappointing in cd players. They are supposed to be mobile, but you usually can't fit them in your pocket. And if for some reason they could fit, they would just skip every couple of seconds. This isn't so with MD players.

Sound:7
Like I said, they just didn't seem to be loud enough for my tastes. I do like to listen to my music very loud though. If you can do without extremely loud music, than don't pay any attention to this
Look:9
I think this is where the MD are really cool. I couldn't tell you how many people at my school point to my MD player and ask what it is. It's a nice little gadget to impress your friends.
Durability:9
The thing has held up so far, and doesn't show any sign of breaking down any time soon.
