Pros: Nice slim design, reads various types of discs including JPEG files.
Cons: Stutters on certain discs about 30 seconds after fast scan.
The Bottom Line: Other than the stuttering I had no other problems with this unit. I don't know if it happens with other discs but based on my experience I can't recommend it.

| phantomfan31's Full Review: JVC XV-N50 DVD Player |
I recently purchased this player after seeing it was rated as the number 2 player in a Consumer Reports issue back in December. After numerous trips to various local Best Buy stores, (I had gift cards to use), I finally found this player. Setup was easy and the remote is good as well. I tried a movie and it worked great. But when I tried my Sanford & Son DVD's, this is where I noticed the problem.
When I did the FF scan and came back to play, around 20-30 seconds later the picture would change as if it was stuttering. I could push stop and then play again but it would do the same thing after the same 20-30 seconds. I took the unit back and exchanged it for another one hoping that I might have received a bad unit. The second does the same thing also. I tried the DVD in two other machines and it did not do this.
After purchasing I had read where other people had the same problem, even someone who had claimed to be responsible for the design error and that by contacting JVC, you could request an upgrade disc. Well when I called JVC that knew nothing about this problem.
I don't know if there was a bad batch of these made that have this problem or if it corrected, but I am going to return this and maybe go with a different model.
If anyone knows of this problem or if there is a fix let me know.
