theman61890's Full Review: Pokémon: Johto Photo Finish & Playing with fi...
Like Pokemon For Ho Oh The Bell Toll & A Hot Water Battle I did not buy this but borrowed it from a friend while going to Canada. I found the idea of the Gameboy Advance to play videos was great. But the idea of paying twenty dollars for two episodes were absurd so I never got around to buying one of these GBA video videogames. This videogame was not as good as the other one I reviewed. The game had many problems from sound to graphics.
Story
The standard pokemon storyline as Ash and his friends are traversing the globe in search of adventure. These two episodes centralizes around Ashes journey in the Pokemon League, in Playing with fire Ash battles a trainer named Harrison. The two battled and defeated each others Pokemon until its down to one pokemon to one.
In the second episode, which is a continuation of the first one, Ash and Harrison send out there last two Pokemon. Ash sends out Charizard and Harrison sends out Blaziken as a duel between fire types emabarked. The two have a gargantuan battle of fire pokemon supremacy.
Graphics
The graphics were decent but would lag at times. Also some scenes were pixalated or blurry at times. I don't know if it was the cartridge or my GBA SP but I did not have this problem with the other three video cartridges I had. Other than that the videos ran smoothly and were very watchable. Usually the video lagged during attacks and fast paced movements during the Pokemon battles.
Sound
The sound was pretty good, but did have some problems. Like the other video videogame cartridges when you put the volume high the game would emit this annoying static sound. But the game was fine to watch on lower sound levels. Besides this problem, on which i found with all the GBA videnow games I had, everything else sounded televisonesque.
Gameplay
The cartridge allows you to choose an episode by scrolling to it and selecting it by pushing the A button. During the two episodes you can also fats forward, stop, rewind just like other media outlets. This is good since anyone can work the video on this interface.
Replay Value
The video will get repetitive sooner or later, it can not be helped. In that retrospect the game has a very low replay value. I watched it twice and it started to get boring the second time around.
Overall this is a cartridge to borrow at most. The videos have some problems, mostly graphically, and two episode are not worth twenty or so dollars. But considering I only had problems with this videonow game, it might be only this cartridge that shows graphic problems, even though there is no apparent damage to the cartridge.
