Pros: Great sound when factory default levels are changed, easy remote, decent priced receiver.
Cons: Considering MSRP is $150, I found no reasonable con. What do you expect, THX certification?
The Bottom Line: For those who don't want to spend alot and are considering HT in a box, get this receiver and some lower-end speakers instead. Sound will be much better that way.

| lakmir0's Full Review: KLH R5100 5.1 Channels Receiver |
I bought this receiver at a pawn shop for $75 and I was not expecting as good of performance as I got.
Here are the positives:
SHEER POWER FOR YOUR MONEY
This is a 100Watt X 5 channel digital receiver @ 8 ohms with less than 1% THD.
Note: Do not stress if you have 6 ohm fronts and 8 ohm backs, I used (2) 6 ohm Sony floor fronts rated @ 240Watts with a Sony center channel 66 Watts @6 ohms, and (2) Sony surrounds rated 50 Watts @ 8ohms. At volume 32, I had no audible distortion. Even if you have 6 ohms around the board, the receiver will handle the load without distortion.
CRISP HIGHS WHEN SPEAKER LEVELS ARE SET CORRECTLY
First thing to remember with any receiver is ditch the factory presets and DSP modes off the top. NEVER judge a receiver by out of the box settings. I calibrated this receiver with Lord of the Rings- Fellowship and others and I found (with my speakers as mentioned above and Sony 250Watt Sub) these speaker levels to be optimum for my setup:
Center Channel: 07dB
Right and Left Fronts: 05dB
Rear Surrounds: 03dB
Subwoofer: 00 OR 01dB (This one varies since my sub is 250W, but a lower powered sub may need to be 02 or 03 max)
I watched LOTR with pride after this with Clear dialog, no distortion, powerful rumbles when appropriate (can still hear the crisp sound of arrows sticking into a Goblin!), and very distinct background effects.
Overall, a very good receiver. I am not too fond of KLH speakers, but I am very pleased with this receiver. I have heard higher priced receivers that I do not like this much. Many of those receivers did not deliver the clean highs and clear dialog of this receiver, even with hours of calibration. It also balances well even when action parts come up. Many other receivers I have tried have low dialog but boom when the action comes and leaves you scrambling for the remote. Not this one, I highly recommend it for those looking for good sound on the cheap.
DONT BUY HOME THEATRE IN A BOX, BUY THIS RECEIVER AND SOME LOW COST SONY OR YAHAMA SPEAKER SEPERATES AND MAKE YOUR OWN SYSTEM FOR THE SAME COST.
