You are right for the most part. But let me tell you how Sears works. They contract out to companys to make their products.
Their dishwashers are made by Whirlpool,Frigidaire,General Electric and as far as I'm concerned it's like playing a shell game unless you buy the Kenmore/Whirlpool one (like you have)then your taking a big chance. I have worked on these products for over 30 years and if anyone knows the repair rate I do.
The Whirlpool one has a 665. in the model number and the frigidaire is 587. I can't remember the GE one but ASK when you buy or look at the real name ones and see if the insides look the same and that way you can tell with is which.
The washers and dryers are mostly Whirlpool and you can't go wrong with those. But beware of anything else.

I was going to head to Sears today. The door on our ancient dishwasher of sundry doom is about to fall off, bottom of the line White Westinghouse.
You really gave me the EXACT info that I was looking for. Features and buzzwords and washing arms, oh my!
Talk about knowing what to look for now!

.. to buy a new dishwasher, but thankfully I stopped into my computer room to check epinions first. This is a wonderful review, and now I have the "armor" I need to go choose! I was heading to Sears anyway, but your options list really helped me to know what to look for. Thanks for a great review!

As someone who worked for Sears in the maintenance and protection plan area for several months, I can attest to the fact that Sears changes their model numbers more often than most people change their underwear.
I believe that sometimes we need to take a baby step outside the box to creatively make Epinions more useful to consumers. I'm sorry you were unable to find a speck of usefulness in this review.

My dishwasher is a Kenmore Ultra Wash also.
I do not know exactly how old it is, since it was here when we bought the house.
But I can say it is everything you have cracked it up to be.
As for the caked detergent...have you tried the dishwasher Tablets? I found the Electrasol ones to be wonderful, and have yet to find one undissolved.

I will not buy another dishwasher with a washtower. Too much space is lost (I do a lot of big pot & big bowl cooking) I did see a Kenmore that was $300 less than the $800 KitchenAid I had in my last house. If I could just get the GE profile to die or something, I could justify getting one! :-D

for going on 10 years now. It occasionally leaks and the detergent cup sometimes sticks. Retirement is not far off. I'll keep your suggestions in mind when that fateful day comes.
