| dwest2314's Full Review: Kenmore 15872 Dishwasher |
My wife and I purchased the Kenmore Elite model 16912 a month ago and I wanted to let those considering this model know how it stacks up. Coming from a GE "contractor grade" model, we have a lot to be pleased with in the new machine.
First, our model is white on the outside and we paid $619.99 at Sears without installation charges. As mentioned above, it has a stainless steel interior, for a price very competitive next to the other brands we considered, including Maytag, Bosch and Whirlpool. The buttons are nicely arranged in the front and it has settings for all kinds of situations - pots n pans, china, anti-bacterial, etc. It also lets you do a quick wash for lightly soiled items. But what is most exciting is being able to put heavily soiled plates inside a day after they have been eaten on.
The dishwasher jumps at the task of cleaning these dishes and we have yet to re-wash an item. Even the most baked on items cleaned off spectacularly. One note of caution, spaghetti sauce. If not removed from dishes, the sauce appears to slightly discolor clear plastic items. I venture to guess this may be because we used the anti-bacterial setting which super-heats the water coming in and that makes the plastic permeable to absorbing the red color from the sauce. It did not harm the clear plastic, only discolored them slightly. Had we used the normal wash cycle, I suspect this would not have happened, but we have baby bottles and supplies that need the anti-bacterial setting. In the future, we'll just make sure that spaghetti sauce is rinsed off first or not in baby product wash load.
As far as noise is concerned, the dishwasher is considerably quieter than our previous model. It is by no means silent nor does it have the volume of cola fizz as one salesperson suggested. It still makes noise, though, again, fairly softly and not so much as to interfere with television programs in our adjacent family room, like the last one did. Furthermore, this new model has a delay start such that you can have it come on a couple of hours after you set it. Great to set after dinner so as to come on around 11 pm.
All in all I would rate this machine a definite good buy. We are very satisfied with our purchase and with both the level of cleaning and level of noise of this machine. It has tons of great features and is easy to use. It has a child button dissabling feature to prevent kids from turning the machine on or off and it is visually attractive. Finally, our confidence in the reliability of this model (16912) is bolstered by Consumer Reports picking it as the fourth best dishwasher in its most recent survey of all models and brands. I expect this machine will give us many years of dependable and exceptional service.
