| jdbonello's Full Review: Kenmore 44932 \ 44934 \ 44936 Front Load Washer |
I purchased this matching set (washer & dryer) in early 2003. Not only does the washer get my clothes exceptionally clean, it is a MUST for someone who really likes to have special cycles for different laundering needs. I can wash the most delicate fragile items with absolutely no damage. Things I was never able to put in my old washer.
On the flipside, I can load it up with heavy duty items like my husband's muddy work clothes. This washer gives new meaning to the term "super capacity". You can fit so much into each load and it all gets perfectly clean. The controls allow you to completely customize every aspect of the cycle to your liking.
Oh, and you won't believe how whisper quiet it is. You almost can't even tell it's on. The only time you can actually hear "washing machine noise" is if you're close by the machine when it starts the final spin and you can hear a low humming. Other than that, you might hear some occasionally water splashing noises. And your clothes come out feeling almost dry.
I had read previous reviews on this model prior to purchasing it myself and was frightened by tales of molding of the rubber gasket. I have had no such problem. However, I always leave the washer door slightly ajar so the inside of the machine can air out after I use it. And I haven't had any problem with socks or other small items getting caught under the rubber gasket as some reviews claimed.
Also, I bought the matching pedestal and am glad I did. No bending or reaching and it gives extra storage space. The Maytag pedestals do not have storage in them.
I was also worried about how easily I would be able to add an item to the wash after I had already started the cycle. You can do it very easily!! I was pleasantly surprised.
On two occasions I did get an error message during the cycle citing some kind of electrical error. But each time I was able to quickly reset the controls and continue the wash cycle.
Regarding detergent: when I first bought this machine, high efficiency (HE) detergent was hard to find and grossly overpriced. Now it's more readily available in many of the major brands and the price is comparable to regular detergent. I would recommend using it if you can find it at the same price as regular detergent because you don't have to worry about oversudsing the wash drum, which has happened to me a couple of times with regular detergent. And speaking of that, when you use Woolite, that stuff REALLY suds up more than regular detergent - so use less of it.
Attn: liquid detergent fans, you will need to also use powder with this machine if you want to use the pre-wash cycle. However, I have had great results using both kinds of detergent. Depending on what type of laundry aids you use, you may have to modify your routine to conform to the four-compartment detergent/laundry additive tray (pre-wash, wash, bleach and fabric softener). I used to sprinkle powdered borax into my wash before. Now I can no longer do this, but I do add it in with my detergent(in the dispenser) when I use the powdered soap.
The wash cycles take much longer than I anticipated. The "sanitize" mode is 2 hours long. Some cycles are over an hour. However, if you have the matching dryer, the drying time is much faster, so it kind of evens out.
Many more pros than cons!
