Pros: Very smooth, light taste. No bitter, harsh aftertaste
Cons: None that I've found, but I'll be happy to keep testing it for flaws!
The Bottom Line: Serve it cold in a chilled martini glass, with just a hint of vermouth. Ketel One makes an absolutely delicious vodka martini. It also makes a great Cosmopolitan!
If I could only have one type liquor to drink for the rest of my life, my choice would be vodka. If I could only have one brand of vodka, it would be Ketel One.
My husband and I have been experimenting with different vodkas to find the perfect martini vodka. I think Ketel One is it!
Smooth, Light, Delicious!
It has a very smooth, light taste, especially when it is very cold. It feels so cold at first, sliding nicely over the tongue, then it grows nice and warm going down. No bitter aftertaste, or desire to shake my head wildly back and forth like a dog just out of the water trying to dry himself. (Believe me, some liquors give me that reaction.)
Martini - Shaken or Stirred
Ketel One makes an outstanding martini. We keep a bottle in the freezer at all times, so we can just pour it into our martini glasses with a tiny splash of vermouth. Top it with an olive or two and it is perfect. (We usually keep chilled glasses in the freezer as well. It turns the glass a bit frosty, but keeps the martini cold even longer.)
Of course, it is even better when placed in a martini shaker with vermouth, shaken, then strained from the ice into the chilled glasses.
Portable Martini Bar
We recently attended a class reunion with our "martini bar" in hand. A bottle of Ketel One and a bottle of vermouth on ice in a small cooler. The martinis were cold and smooth and we were the life of the party. Everyone wanted to know what we were drinking. The only downside is that we were using clear plastic cups. I wasn't about to risk breaking my good martini glasses.
Great with Munchies
Ketel One martinis are perfect party or special occasion drinks. They're great with hors d'oeuvres of most any kind. Cheese, olives, puff pastry, or ham rollups are a great accompaniment for Ketel One martinis.
Martini "Fixings"
Sometimes we'll use an olive and an onion in our martinis. We've experimented with a variety of different stuffings in the olives. And on the rare occasion that we didn't have olives, Ketel One still makes a fine martini. Yes, even on the occasion that we didn't have vermouth, Ketel One by itself is a great drink. A nice cold shot of Ketel One will get you relaxed as you're preparing the hors d'oeuvres, as well. (Only one, or the hors d'oeuvres will never get finished!)
Very Smooth with a Mixer
Ketel One is so smooth that it practically disappears when you mix it. In fact, it such a wonderfully smooth vodka I hate to "waste" it with a mixer.
However, it is very good with cranberry juice and a splash of lime. Mmmmm, yes, a great Cosmopolitan and the martini glasses are always cold and ready!
Recommendation and Comparison
We've tried Absolut and we liked it. Then we tried Fris and we liked it better than Absolut. Then a friend told us about Ketel One... it's the smoothest vodka we've tried yet and it is reasonably priced for a premium vodka.
