If you're in the market for a cordless keyboard, the options are slim. Logitech seems to have the best solution, combining good battery life with digital radio technology to give you the best and most secure cordless keyboard connection available today.
The keyboard is designed and manufactured by NMB for Logitech. Since its an NMB, the keyboard itself is of good quality. The keypress feels comfortable, with the right amount of pressure to provide good feedback to the user. Range is also roughly 6 feet, though if I mount the receiver on a shelf I can stretch it another one or two feet. No problem whatsoever using the keyboard within 5-6 feet.
Logitech/NMB also chose to include quite a few one touch convenience keys. Given time most users will feel very comfortable with these keys and will actually find themselves using them quite often. Useful feature.
When using the PS2 port, the keyboard works properly 100% of the time, including during POST and BIOS setup. Be aware that some other cordless keyboards and USB keyboards may not work during POST or to enter BIOS setup. This may be motherboard dependent, so your results may vary.
The two problems I have with this keyboard are the software and lack of lights for CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK. Fortunately, Logitech provides software that will place two icons in your Windows system tray to represent CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK. These work well, but take a bit of time to get used to, not to mention the valuable tray space they take up. As an alternative, Logitech sells a replacement receiver base that includes lights to represent CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK. Not sure of the price, but thought they should have included this receiver/base to begin with!!
The second issue relates to the Logitech driver software. Logitech provides a meter to read the battery level, unfortunately on two PC's running Windows 2000 SP2, I could not get the meter to register anything. Upon speaking with Logitech support about this, I quickly found out this has been a bit of a problem for them. They claim certain applications interfere with the ability for their driver to check the battery level. They have not identified a fix yet, but claim one should be forthcoming. I'm skeptical since this keyboard has been out for quite a while, yet the problem remains.
