I've had mine for several years in my home kitchen, and it's been a real disappointment. It's no good at all for small quantities (like whipping cream or a small cake) because the beater doesn't reach the bottom of the bowl. Since it's so big and heavy, I only get it out for things a small hand mixer can't handle. But using it for heavy duty use, like cookie dough or bread, burns out the variable speed feature very quickly. Without a low speed, the mixer throws the dry ingredients out of the bowl and all over you and your kitchen. The variable speed feature only works for a few uses before burning out. I've had it repaired several times(expensive) and it needs repair AGAIN. For most of the time I've had it, it's only operated at high speed. On the other hand, I don't know of any other products on the market that could handle large batches of heavy doughs, and this type of use justifies the weight and bulk of this model. I'd definitely call KitchenAid and ask if they've remedied these design flaws before considering buying a new one.
