kbolton72's Full Review: KitchenAid K5SS Heavy Duty Commercial 325 Watts St...
If I only had four arms...I could keep up with the Christmas cookie bake off for all of my loved ones, I could whip up batches of homemade muffins and eggs florentine like a pro! Or maybe, my new expensive baby by KitchenAid will put me at the top of the cookie baker list!! Now, if only I had my Grandma Edna's energy level...What have I done? I SPLURGED on this extremely Top-of-the-Line, borderline professional bakers, upscale, fully loaded mixer that caused my husband to demand cookies of every kind for spending nearly $400.00 on eBay for this awesome mixer! If you knew me, you would know that I am always breaking things, losing parts, frying electrical outlets...I am a female Tim Allen!! I bid on this very ritzy, yet homemaker quality luxury item, because I wanted something that made me feel like a woman, er, a homemaker! I like BIG things, top of the line items, I like having the best. And this, my friends, is by far, one of the best!! I am going through this whole life makeover. I am 34, so I feel as if I have more than paid my dues with cheap, on sale, under $100.00 items that break or end up eyesores that do not match anything in my kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc. It is funny what an injury causing car accident can do to your mentality of what kind of products you will accept in your life!
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
It is HUGE. And Heavy! It is completely 100% stainless steel. It matches the kitchen we are in the middle of remodeling. It looks like a monster of a mixer. And it is. It weighs about 28 pounds, with a huge 5 quart stainless steel bowl that allows for easy side-scraping. It practically falls off the sides when you are cleaning it or getting the last drop out. A spatula's best friend!! Underneath the bowl, there is a bowl lift that I have never seen on a mixer before. What the bowl lift does, basically, is raises and/or lowers the bowl at the slightest of touch, to get the hard to reach or middle of the batter, where ingredients tend to ball up and not spread through the entire batch. (Think flour, nuts, chips, oatmeal, etc). It helps even out the mix. The mixer comes with several attachments, much like a professional commercial mixer that includes a dough hook for bread, a wire whip for light mixes, such as eggs or dry combos, and a flat beater for heavier foods. It sits on four remarkable, tiny rubber legs that keep this humongous appliance grounded in place and avoids scratching your counter top as it rocks and rolls!
WHISTLE WHILE YOU WORK
At Christmas time, I love baking cookies from my childhood. There are tens of different kinds of batches, and I am a busy girl. I do not have time to do one little batch at a time. I am a multi-tasker. Anything that saves me time and energy is a godsend. This beautiful, magnificent delight can handle TWO cookie dough batches at a time. I repeat, TWO at a time! I can get my baking done(at least the prep time) in half the time! This machine runs on 325 watts, on high torque transmission. Whatever that means to you, it means FAST to me! This FLYS through the entire process that would make two generations before me green with envy! Also, as the load increases, the mixer automatically increases power to keep up the pace at an even keel. It has counter clockwise rotation, and does not go around and around in a circle the way most mixers do. This seems to have a mind of its own! That is called Planetary mixing!! It has ten speeds for you to choose from, starting with stirring and ending at whipping! It is actually a joy to use this, and makes you feel like Mrs. Fields, as if you could start your own cookie or baking business! And this baby could handle your orders, if you did use this professionally, whether you are making wedding cakes by the dozen, or experimenting with muffin recipes! It makes you WANT to bake. There are accessories that can also be used as a can opener, a food grinder or a pasta maker. It has it ALL.
So men, if you are reading, your wife would love this for Christmas! If she enjoys baking, this from "The Kids" would be a blessing!!!
WHAT I ENJOYED MOST
The time saving extravaganza I experience with this mixer compares the few extra hundred dollars I spent. It has recreated in me a need to be creative in the kitchen, a place that up until recently, I have used as a food storage area. It has inspired in me the need to buy more baking ware and cooking gear to see what I am made of in the kitchen. It is luxury beyond compare, and I know this will last me up until my grandmothering years! It is sleek, a pleasure to clean, attractive and a blast to enjoy Martha Stewart/Rachel Ray like baking. If you can afford this, buy it! You will be glad you did!
Thanks for reading, and I will save some cookie dough for you! :)
