The Bottom Line: This powerhouse food processor has a large-capacity bowl, sharp blades and a sturdy footprint. It's definitely up for most processing tasks.
pestyside's Full Review: KitchenAid KFP750 12 Cups Food Processor
Imagine, making coleslaw with a food processor!! For many using the food processor may be the only way youve created this barbecue-season salad, but not me. Ive always done it the old-fashioned, finger-scraping way (thats the extra protein). Nearly a year and a half after buying the KitchenAid KFP750 12-Cup Food Processor I finally put some of the accessories to work.
This is A Fabulous Food Processor
We wanted certain features and one definitely included capacity. I have several recipes that really require a heavy-duty, large-capacity food processor. This KitchenAid appliance features the following:
A four-cup mini bowl with a mini blade (this became a mini chopper and Ive used this many times chopping nuts)
Dual tall feed tubes with a food pusher and compartment for measuring liquids (this feeding tube and food pusher made it really easy to feed cabbage into my slaw, but I also used the measuring compartment to drizzle vinegar
Spacious 12-cup polycarbonate work bowl (this provided lots of room easily accommodating a small cabbage head but also my coconut macaroon recipe)
Powerful 700 watt motor (the coconut macaroon recipe really challenges food processor motors)
Accessory Storage Case fits nicely in my pantry (stored inside is a multipurpose stainless steel blade, dough blade and three discsa two mm fine slicing, four mm shredding, and four mm slicing discs and disc stem )
Spatula, instruction and small recipe book (recipe book is in French, Spanish and English).
This isnt loaded with lots of gimmicky speeds, just off, on, and pulse. The control pad is a CleanTouch which makes it easy to wipe off baking messes. Both the mixing bowl and lid easily snap into place.
The KitchenAid is not just powerful, its also big. This weighs 15 ½ pounds, stands 15 inches tall, and has a footprint of 10 ½ by 8 ¼ inches. I keep it on a shelf thats slightly above waist high and thats a good location. Its too heavy for this wimp to move from a high shelf.
In Motion
My previous food processor (and old blender) has been relegated to crafts and papermaking, although I must be careful with the former food processor. It was/is a small capacity machine and small amounts of liquid would quickly spill out over the top once and shaft. This, on the other hand, can handle much more. However, it still wont blend 12 cups of liquid without spilling. Blending something like a lentil soup could quickly become messyhowever, youll still need to do large soups in stages. If youre observant youll notice the maximum-fill line and you wont over fill. If youre tempted youll spend time cleaning up a mess that comes out from around the disc stem.
Blades and accessories are easy to use. The shredding and slicing discs sit close to the top with lots of space below to capture food. The blades are all easy to install and remove. The mini bowl keeps the larger compartment clean, its easy to remove, and it helps when preparation requires multiple steps of chopping. The mini bowl is easily removed using a two-finger grip, one finger on each side of the bowls interior top. Place fingers and lift.
I used the dough blade while making macaroon cookies. This is a VERY stiff recipe and it intimidated my previous machine. There were times when I had to remove all of the ingredients and complete the task by hand although someone pointed out that our bread machine would knead the cookie dough. Not long ago I also used this for mixing refrigerator cookie dough. It didnt let me down.
The weather turned warm this weekend and to complement my grilled pork steaks I made coleslaw using the shredding disc. Wow, I couldnt have asked for anything easier. It took less than a minute to shred a small cabbage head. I cut the cabbage into eights, fed it through the tube using the food pusher and all was cut (including some outer leaves) within moments. When finished shredding, I placed the mini bowl inside and chopped up red onion and the red bell pepper. After all of this was done I removed the mini bowl to make the slaw dressing. The coleslaw was assembled in less than 10 minutesand that included locating and preparing ingredients. Once again I was impressed.
The multipurpose blade can be used to chop dried fruits, mince garlic, chop huts, make nut butters, shred bread and crackers or grate hard cheeses; the slicing disc juliennes vegetables, and shreds and slices fruits (even delicate and small ones like strawberries, mushrooms and radishes).
Quiet! The machines motor is quiet as well as powerful. This is a 700-watt motor that is surprisingly quiet. The machine was up to handling the stiff cookie dough without any moaning, hesitating or counter dancing. The cookie dough ball was smooth and uniformly mixed.
Clean Up
Its not my duty to clean up if Im cooking, but generally if Im really making a mess or baking clean up should fall on my shoulders. This is easy. The bowls and blades are all dishwasher safe. The rubber spatula helps remove ingredients. Wash with soap and water. As with all food processors, removing a blade surrounded by food runs a risk of getting it on the disc stem. The instruction book provides illustrated directions to simplify this task. Its easy to wipe this processor clean from stem to stern or from shaft to disc. KitchenAid recommends cleaning with lemon juice if any discoloration occurs from food (tomato sauce, turmeric). I havent had that problem.
There are other toys or accessories available for this that includes a citrus press, parmesan/ice grating disk, 6 mm shredding disc, egg whip, and quilted appliance cover. This is available in chrome, red, black, white, and pink. Replacement bowls, pieces and parts are available online through the KitchenAid store.
My Favorite Things
I love the power. One of my signature recipes is the coconut macaroons. Everyone loves them but theyre tough to make. Another is a frozen hot buttered rum ice cream mix. Its difficult to prepare and requires a powerful food processor. I also like the large capacity and the covered accessory box, both the shape and the way it efficiently stores the accessories. The mini-bowl is a terrific way to address multiple steps and the need for chopping small amounts of ingredients.
Warning
The blades really are sharp so use care when removing them from the accessory box. Dont be tempted to push food through the tube with fingers or your meal will have more protein than intended. Dont try to process any frozen food, especially if it cant be cut by a knife. Prevent spreading or rolling on the shredding disc by using well-chilled cheeses instead of room temperature cheese. This is not designed to grind bones (So if youre inclined to grind bones for your bread Be ye alive or be ye dead, I'll grind your bones to make my bread*consider using a different tool.)
Final Thoughts
My last, wimpy food processor lasted 15 or so years, this should last longer but if I ever need to replace it I can only hope that the KFP750 12-Cup Food Processor is still being made or that something comparable in quality is still being produced by Kitchen Aid.
