Pros: Looks good in a showroom. KitcenAid helpfull when it breaks and it will.
Cons: Expect touch pad to malfunction & peel off, not if but when.
We purchased this appliance 2 years ago along with a matching microwave/hood and dishwasher. They were the first new appliance we had purchased for the kitchen and we were very excited. Unfortunately, since our purchase we have had service techs out on 5 occasions, twice to fix the oven door and three times to fix/replace the oven touch pad which apart from sporadically working, has a tendency to peel off the body of the range and collect debris. We called service (this would have been the 6th time) to fix the most recent error where the door won't lock (so no self cleaning) and the Main Sensor Shorted (dead control panel so no oven use).
We had purchase an extended warranty, which expired in May, and we were not notified of it's upcoming expiration so it had lapsed by the time our latest problem occured. The cost of a service call was $70 and the cost of repairs was estimated at $500-$600. I beleive that the extended warranty provider, A & E had conveniently forgotten to notify us due the amount of money we were costing them on callout and repairs.
Before giving up and throwing the range out and just buying a new (non KitchenAid) appliance, I called their customer service department to convey my dissatisfaction and was pleasantly suprised to be offered a replacement range. I must say at this point, that the customer service person I dealt with was a pleasure to deal with regardless of outcome. They suggested their alternate model KGRS807SSS (with a 20% co-pay by us as it is off full factory warranty) which under the circumstances, seemed acceptable.
My only concern, having made my co-pay, is that I have just read some reviews for this replacement item, and it looks like I will be investing in another extended warranty. Just like the original, it looks the part, but does it work?
It's hard to cook with your fingers crossed.
