I bought the promedia 4.1's about a year ago and the second i plugged them in I was amazed. Sound quality was impeccable as was the amount of bass supplied by the ample subwoofer. I listen to numerous genres of music and was surprised that the speakers were well suited to all of them.
The package comes with four satellite speakers and a subwoofer. Volume controls are provided on the front-left satellite speaker. There are ports for headphones and an audio-in jack if you would like to hook up an mp3 player and such.
These speakers pack quite a punch. When i first got them, i was in a dorm room, and with the bass and volume up high, it would shake the whole room, and also get me in a lot of trouble. While the four speaker system is nice, i kind of wished i had opted for the cheaper, 2.1 system. It is tough to find space for 4 properly placed speakers, not to mention all the wiring that is involved. The speakers treated me well for about 6 months.
That all changed. One day, for reasons unknown to me, my speakers started buzzing. They would buzz when on, and buzz when "off" (the off switch is really just a mute button). I tried switching the speakers around to see if it was a problem speaker and all of them buzzed, which led me to the conclusion of something being wrong with my subwoofer. After getting used to the buzz i fell back in love with my speakers. A few weeks later I tried to play some real bass-rich song (trance) and the sub sounded like it was underwater. My sub was dead. I haven't gotten around to replacing them or sending them back yet. While they are a great speaker, it makes me angry that while they are pricey and sound great, they are not reliable. Buyer beware.
