| pfc5's Full Review: Klipsch RC-25 Center Speaker |
The Klipsch RC-25 center channel is a slightly lower grade product when compared to the Klipsch RC-3, but the price difference is about $100.00 lower. The RC-25 has great sound if you like your lows low and your highs high, but don't like to much mid-range. If satellites don't sound natural to you when you only have one sub-woofer, then this is a center channel you want to have. It covers almost all of the audible sounds (20HZ-20KHZ) human ears can hear @ 69HZ-20KHZ. The RC-25 is the lowest price "Reference Series" center channel speaker Klipsch sells. Don't be fooled by the lower price. The sound is rich, full and realistic. They are very efficient at 95dB sensitivity. This means it takes half the power to drive the RC-25s at a given sound level than a 92dB speaker needs. When people with Bose speaker systems or other satellite systems hear my setup they say WOW. They hear the difference having sound (read bass) coming from all around them. I think my present system sounds better than most theaters I have been in lately and others agree.
I have the RC-25s matched to my RP-5 towers, and Synergy Series SS-1 surrounds. I don't think the timbre matching is as important with the surrounds so I opted to save some money with the SS-1s. Wish I had the money for the RS-35s, but the SS-1s are much better than the Yamaha satellites they replaced. These speakers are powered by an outdated Yamaha HTR-5140 receiver I bought around four years ago. At the time there was a $200.00+ premium to get built-in DTS decoders, so I got this one with only Dolby Digital decoder built-in. It only has 70 watts/ch. and I can only turn the power to about 40% max without blowing my ears out. :) I purchased (for a steal - $130.00) a JVC 7 disc DVD player (XV-FA95) with built-in Dolby digital AND DTS decoders.
I also have four B&W 602s in my game room, but they require much more power (only 90dB sensitivity) to drive them when compared to the Klipsch speakers, so if you want efficient speakers that sound great go with Klipsch. They also have a 5 yr. warrantyif bought from authorized dealer.
