| dazey's Full Review: Kodak EasyShare DX4530 Digital Camera |
My Kodak Easy Share DX 4530 was a present from my fiancee to replace my HP Photosmart that I'd slowly grown to despise.
This fun and functional camera came with a useless lens cover and a handy wrist strap. The internal memory was actually quite surprising to me, 32MB seemed to greatly dwarf that of my previous cameras 8MB internal memory. I promptly took it to the camera store and bought a 256MB SD card for additional storage, because there was no way 32MB would really be good for much.
And off on a road trip we went, with the new camera. After all, we did need to test it out. With my fiancee in the photographers seat, the passenger seat; he aimed at random odd things that we passed by on the long drive down 35E towards Padre. Barns, livestock, you name it. He photographed it. We stopped in a small town halfway there and took photos of the college ruins in Salado, and anything else we felt necessary to document. Once we arrived in Padre and loaded our things into our hotel room, we pulled out the laptop to download the photos that were taken to see what they looked like. The small display of my laptop did them no justice, but they amazed me. The photos he had taken while I was doing 70mph looked as though we had stopped and gotten out to take the photographs. Not to mention the quality and size were impressive enough by themselves. I sent several to be printed by Ofoto and they resulted in clear, brilliant photographs.
I've since taken the camera on trips to concerts, family outings, etc. In dark lighting, it still takes a pretty good photograph. The flash can sometimes wash the subject out, but that's to be expected in a dark venue with spotlights and an added flash. The zoom is steady and clear, not at all what I expected from an optical/digital zoom on a $300 camera. I then tested out the video capturing abilities. Due to the limitations of my memory card, I wasn't able to video an entire song [not without deleting several photos I had taken previously] but I was just playing anyway. Once I got it home and pulled the photos and movie files off, I was impressed. The sound wasn't brilliant, but it was clear and could be understood. It sounded like I was at a live show with a camcorder. No jerky bouncing from when I would randomly get bumped into, which I expected. Since I take photographs for a local band, it was necessary that this camera be able to handle at the very least, clubs.
The rechargeable/AA battery option? Awesome.
The USB recharger/Dock? Another amazing accessory.
Photo quality? Impressive.
Ease of use? My Fiancees mother has no problems using hers, and she can't turn on her own computer.
