lectersmeal's Full Review: Kodak EasyShare Dock 6000 Photo Printer
Digital photography is without a doubt, one of technology's biggest trends. Not only do people want the flexibility of choosing which pictures to keep, but people want the convenience of printing at home.
This Printer Dock 6000 is compatible with 6000 or 7000 level Kodak cameras. But before you make any major purchases, it's important to explore all options.
BENEFITS
1. Convenience
I dont think I have to say much about this topic. Im sure were all tired of the many trips we make to town each day. This is an easy way to save the time of dropping pictures off, waiting for them to be developed, and picking them up again.
2. Travel
Any time you make big vacations, youre not always going to have enough room on that memory card. And most people hate having to purchase a larger MB memory card just for the occasional trip. By taking your printer with you, you can print your pictures on the spot, not having to leave them on your camera, while also being able to immediately exchange pictures with the family.
3. Charge and Transfer
Theres no need to go buy a separate charger. Your printer will charge up your camera for you, which can definitely come in handy considering how easily batteries are depleted on digital cameras. Not to mention, with the touch of a button, your pictures can be transferred over to your computer. Easy enough, right?
4. No need for a computer.
The camera sits on top of the printer dock, and you use the navigation menu on the camera to print your pictures. So even if you dont have a computer, theres absolutely no need to worry. But those that have a computer (running at least Windows 98) or Mac OS, a simple USB connection is all thats needed.
5. Quality Prints
This printer is what they call a dye sublimation printer. Lets just throw out fancy wording and know how the printer works. When you select a photo to be printed, it moves in and out of the camera a couple times, each time adding a new layer of color. This guarantees the best possible image.
DISADVANTAGES
1. Cost
The paper and ink film are sold in a box packaged together. This will run you about $24.99 for 40 prints. Youre paying about 50 cents a picture.
2. Compatibility
The camera only works with Kodak 6000 and 7000 level cameras. If you decide to upgrade your camera, chances are, youll be replacing the printer too.
3. Print Sizes
You can only print 4x6's, so for those 8x10's, you'll still have to get them printed elsewhere.
4. Speed
Pictures are printed as low as 90 seconds per picture, but if you have a lot to print, it could take some time to get the job done.
