Several years ago I owned a Krups Crystal Arome Plus 466 10 Cup Coffee Maker. I absolutely loved that coffee maker! However I gave it to my mom when my husband won a DeLonghi Flavor Savor 12 Cup (big mistake, a review for another time.) When the Delonghi's cheep plastic parts gave out after only three years, I decided another Krups would be a great choice.

I picked up the Krups FME4 on sale. It had a lot of great features such as 1-3 cup brew cycle, up to 5 hour auto shut off, auto start brewing, and the filter basket was easy to remove and clean. As soon as I opened the box and took one look at the carafe I knew this coffee maker would not be a nice as my previous one. The carafe was UNBELIEVABLY thin. I had a $20.00 Black & Decker coffee maker that had a sturdier carafe than this one. I also noticed that the warming plate looked cheap. That is when I decided to get online and check out reviews on both Amazon and Epinions.
I noticed a lot of the same complaints. Other reviewers complained about the warming plate peeling and flaking and how thin the carafe was. It seems to me that Krups has really lowered their standards. I mean I didn't even get a coffee scoop with the FME4! I decided to go ahead and brew a pot to see how it worked. It did brew a nice cup of coffee. However, as I read through the reviews again I decided it just wasn't worth the risk of keeping it. So I returned it and spent the $27.00 extra dollars to get the Cuisinart DCC1200 instead. Which by the way is an awesome coffee maker!
It's really is too bad that Krups, in my opinion, has gone down hill in what they produce. Their coffee makers have many nice features and they brew well. However, I was turned off by how flimsy the machine appeared to be.
